Depending on the season, the time allotted for the trip, and your finances, I would say a motorcycle. I've never made it as far as Alaska, but I've put a tens of thousands of miles on my Harley-Davidson FXB travelling coast to coast. Would'nt recommend a winter trip though lol BTW, I'm from the Boston area but haven't taken my bike out of the country in years. Check the Canadian Immigration sites to see what you will need. Then make sure you pass through Banff, Alberta !!! It is BREATHTAKING !
