Whats the cheapest time of the year to travel to alaska?
What is the best and cheapest time of the year to travel to Anchorage, Alaska from Seattle? Any particular airlines cheaper than the rest?

April or Sep is cheapest, but the Best is July, Aug, nothing to see from Nov to March Alaska is not cheap, most time round trip for $440 from Seattle, expect more this year Take Cruise from Vancouver ,BC is an alternative way.

I don't think you're going to get "best" and "cheapest" at the same time. The cheapest would be the dead of winter, when it's dark for most of the day. The best would be in mid-summer, but that's when everyone wants to go, so it's going to be more expensive. You can compare air fares at any of the "usual" travel websites, e.g. Kayak, Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity, etc., but they don't all list all the airlines.

When the price is cheap, then the time is bad! :) But still, i 'd rather choose cheap price than the good time. You just have to have an special eye to discover the beauties anytime.

Cheapest and best time to travel is August. This is really good time for travel.

About Best travel route from Kansas City to Anchorage Alaska
Best travel route from Kansas City to Anchorage Alaska?
Should I fly North and then rent a car for the rest of the way? Mapquest says its a 70 hour trip by car, not really good. Has anyone made this trip? Suggestions welcome.

To fly roundtrip costs $600-800 and takes 8-11 hours depending on your preference. To drive 7025 miles takes 117 hours (15 days) and costs $3512 if you use the standard mileage rate or a bare minimum of $927 for just gas at $3.30 a gallon plus the cost of a motel if you stay in one. I can not imagine someone choosing to drive considering these factors.

It is more cost effective to fly vs drive. But, if you drive, you have 2 options. You can drive to Anchorage all the way. Another option is taking the Alaska Marine Highway. You can catch the ferry in Bellingham, Washington and take it up the inside passage (pretty much the same route as the cruise ships) to Haines, and then drive the rest of the way. Another option is they're now setting it up where you catch the ferry in Ketchikan (my hometown) or Juneau (i think) and then taking you up almost all the way to Anchorage. You'll end up getting in port about a 3 hour drive from Anchorage. It's a way to learn a lot about Alaskans, and the crazy bunch we are, plus relax and see some of the flora and fauna. Depending on the season, the time allotted for the trip, and your finances, I would say a motorcycle. I've never made it as far as Alaska, but I've put a tens of thousands of miles on my Harley-Davidson FXB travelling coast to coast. Would'nt recommend a winter trip though lol BTW, I'm from the Boston area but haven't taken my bike out of the country in years. Check the Canadian Immigration sites to see what you will need. Then make sure you pass through Banff, Alberta !!! It is BREATHTAKING !

Travel by bus from Anchorage, AK to Seattle, WA?
Hi, I've got next question about travelling in Alaska. Is it possible to go by bus from Anchorage, through Canada, to Seattle, WA? I understand, that it may take some time, but form bus I'll see more than from plane. I think that it might be cheaper than flinght and much more exciting. Thanks for all your answers, Szymon Nowacky

Greyhound bus, San Francisco to Seattle $90, Seattle to Vancouver $28, Vancouver to Whitehorse $270, Then Alaska direct busline Whitehouse to Anchorage $230. It take 5 to 6 days to arrive there, it will extremly exhausting. Whitehouse to anchorage line only operates Wed and Sun. So the better and fast way is fly, I got there from SF to ANC for $422 round trip last week. I enjoy AK, glacier and wild animals.It is not that cold now, but many tourist sites is still close. Alaska is pretty expensive.The hotel I stayed was $69 now, will be $129 next month, and $199 June to Aug.

What about renting a car and driving the Alcan on your own? That way you can take things at your own pace and stop for things that interest you. Many car rental places will let you do this. Just an idea. A friend of mine and I did this once, and it was a great time.
